The following information is designed to assist you in making the best possible bit selection. We believe, however, that one factor is paramount to the function of a bit;good horsemanship requires proper use of all the aids used to cue the horse to perform. Abbreviations Explained

MI- Malleable Iron, as its name implies, can be molded, pounded or pressed into shape. It can be plated with other metals such as Nickel, Brass, or Zinc. Malleable Iron may rust when the plating wears and made need replacement.

DC- Die Cast items out of Zinc are inexpensive compared to Solid Brass. Unlike Malleable Iron, Zinc Die Cast tends to be more brittle.

SB- Solid Brass has many superior qualities that continually make it a popular metal year after year. Not only is Solid Brass strong, but it will not rust.

NB- Nickel (Plated) Brass is also offered in addition to Solid Brass to further enhance the finish of the base metal.

SS- Stainless Steel continues to be a popular choice because of its strength, shine and antirusting characteristics. The higher initial cost is offset by a longer service life.

NP- Nickel Plating over Malleable Iron or Zinc Die Casting adds a smooth finished look to the casting.

BP- Brass Plating over Malleable Iron or Zinc Die Casting also adds a smooth, finished look to the casting.

CP- Chrome Plating, known for its durability, is a dense, smooth yet tough coating of shiny chrome metal over a base metal.

ST- Sheet Steel stamped hardware is planted to protect the stamped piece from oxidizing. It’s an inexpensive alternative.

RS- Raw Steel will rust over time.
